Wreckhouse International Jazz & Blues Festival Day 5 part 118th of July, 2009 BLACKBURN @ DUSK ULTRALOUNGE (14 George Street). BLACKBURN is a band of three brothers whose music is rich in the tradition of the blues, while inflected with R&B and soul and is electrified with an urban vibe. BLACKBURN brings it all together with conscious lyrics to create a smooth and soulful groove. BLACKBURN were brought to music through the influence of their father, highly regarded keyboard player Bobby Dean Blackburn, a seminal figure of Toronto's Blues and R&B scene in the 60s. The old man played with many of the legends in his time. Descended from fugitive slaves that escaped to Canada in the 1850's, the brothers write and perform in many soulful modes from the blues through to jazz and R&B, reflecting very beautifully upon this legacy.
